Cosmetic Nose Surgery

"To lead by the nose", "To snatch something from under someone?s nose" and many more idioms have one thing common in them ? the nose! The nose is a very important part of the human visage. Apart from its functionality, it is highly significant from the cosmetic viewpoint too. The nose enhances the beauty of the face. Without the nose, everything else on the face would seem to be quite incongruous and out of place (Lord Voldemort, anyone?). When deciding facial beauty, artists often take the nose as the reference point of building all other proportions.

Cosmetic nose surgery is medically known as Rhinoplasty where ?Rhino? refers to the nose and ?Plasty? is repairing or modifying. Rhinoplasty is a procedure that is performed on the human nose to reshape it either by reducing or increasing the size of nose?s various components. A plastic surgeon may remove a lump and/or can change a shape of the nasal bridge and may adjust the width of nostrils along with changing the angle between the upper lip and the nose. Rhinoplasty can also be conjoined with many other cosmetic surgery such as forehead lift, facelift, breast augmentations etc. The cosmetic surgery centers may have different offers for those surgeries that have discounted rates.

Rhinoplasty is not a single procedure but it is a group of surgeries that are selected depending upon the anatomy and preference of the person. A doctor and the patient decide about the shape of the nose that is to be achieved and based on that, the re-construction or rebuilding is performed. The structures that are generally being modified include nasal bones, bridge or septum, cartilages, skin and/or restoring the nostrils. The incisions are made outside but there is much of the work to be performed even inside the nose.

Cosmetic nose surgery is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation depending upon the type of work to be performed. The operation is not a major one and does not require much time (generally 1-2 hours). However, if it is complex surgery, it may go beyond the timeframe. The recovery period is quite short as compared to other major surgeries; however, on the initial stage, one may find difficulty in breathing but that is quite ephemeral. Sutures and splits are generally removed at the first visit that would be after one week of the surgery. There might be swelling and bruising, which is quite normal and goes off over the times.

Rhinoplasty can make your shorter nose longer and the longer one a shorter; larger nose smaller and smaller larger, wider a thinner and thinner a wider. Underlying cartilages and bones are reshaped and modified in their positioning to get a better look. During the entire surgery, the nasal tract (the passage through what we breathe) is handled carefully in order to recover a normal breathing after the surgery. Post-operative care and medications are advised to the patient and utmost care is to be taken to prevent any nasal infection.
